Why do people lie about their lives on the internet ?

I talk to a guy on formspring that says he smokes pot and has sex 24/7 and I know he is a huge liar because if it was true he wouldn't be on FS all day -_- I also know a air quote "girl" who im pretty sure is a dude >_>
